Scope and Content A lawn sweeps up to a terrace before a symmetrical harled house with a central large bay and a single storey wing to the left. The windows are divided into three by stone mullions and decrease in size up the building. The house and wing are part creeper covered. There are wide herbaceous beds on either side of the lawn and plants before the terrace wall. The terrace has a balustrade and steps lead down to the lawn from the centre between two urns. Monreith House was built in 1799 and is known from the essays of Sir Thomas Maxwell. The grounds encompass notable woodland gardens with magnificent rhododendron. The White Loch of Myrton, in the grounds, traditionally only freezes one half at a time.
