Scope and Content A substantial castle in walled grounds, built on a mound above a river bordered by mixed woodland. There is a shingle bank in the foreground. Brechin Castle is a seat of the earls of Dalhousie. It was built in the 18th century in the grounds of earlier buildings, one of which was besieged by Edward I's troops in 1303.
