Fingers of rock project out into the sea forming low headlands and bays. The castle consists of a tower at the end of the headland with several ranges of buildings with small windows reaching back inland from it. A 14th century castle with 15th and 16th century additions. In 1570 Allan Stewart was roasted on a spit by Gilbert Kennedy, Earl of Cassilis until he signed over his lands of Crossraguel Abbey. The Earl was heavily fined by the Privy Council for this.
