Scope and Content A substantial castle with square towers set in wooded parkland, with mist descending over the steep background hill. The castle is set in terraced grounds and is now a hotel. Kinfauns was built in 1822 by Sir Robert Smirke on the site of an earlier castle on land said to have been gifted by King Robert I to a compatriot of Sir William Wallace, Thomas de Longueville or Chartres. Amongst its owners were the earls of Moray.
