Scope and Content A substantial mansion house with flags flying from cupolas on the turrets and towers and a clock above the central section. There is a garden seat round the gnarled tree on the lawn. The house was built in the 17th century and demolished in 1955. Only the gates survive. These have remained closed since the 4th Earl escaped to France after the abortive Jacobite Rising of 1745.
