Scope and Content An old city gateway in a cobbled street, with tenement and mill buildings either side, and fly posters on the left wall. The ' Wishart Arch' or Cowgate Port was restored in 1877 and was removed to its present site beside the East Port Calendering Works in the 1990s. The Cowgate Port or 'Wishart Arch' was used by the Reformist, George Wishart as a pulpit to preach to those on both sides of the city walls during the plague of 1544. Dundee was the first place to receive the Reformation doctrines in Scotland.
