Scope and Content A mansion house, with climbing plants on the walls and crow step gables, set in landscaped grounds, with a sunken garden in the foreground. There is a wooden garden bench on the lawn. Muchalls Castle is a three-storey L-shaped house with a courtyard and enclosed by an outer wall. There is a date on the gateway of 1619-27. The house had a secret passage leading to a smugglers' cove on Muchalls coast.
