Scope and Content A fortified house of tower construction, with smaller buildings and mature trees in the grounds, and a fenced field in the foreground. A late 16th century castellated towerhouse of Z-plan construction, four storeys high, with an oblong keep, gunports, and the projecting square capped towers a later addition. Owned by the Grahams of Claverhouse, Claypotts was forfeited to the Douglases in 1689 on the death of 'Bonnie Dundee' at the Battle of Killiecrankie. Cardinal Beaton is said to have been associated with the castle but it was founded after his murder.
