Scope and Content The Lanark Hydro-Electric Scheme comprises only two power stations: Bonnington and Stonebyres. The oldest hydro-electric scheme in Scotland, it was inaugurated in 1926, and is fed by a number of waterfalls, collectively known as the Falls of Clyde. The scheme was the first large scheme of its type in Britain built for the public electricity supply. The flow of water is regulated by a number of weirs and outflow systems, and this collection of images documents the scheme. It is one of a series recording the eight major hydro-electric schemes in Scotland.
