Date 1/6/2005 to 30/6/2005

Scope and Content This is the ruin of Monkstadt House on the Isle of Skye's Trotternish Peninsula. In June 1746 it was visited by the fugitive Prince and Flora MacDonald after the pair landed nearby following a hazardous crossing from the Western Isles in an open boat. Although the then-occupant of Monkstadt, Sir Alexander Macdonald, was not a Jacobite, his wife, Lady Margaret, who was Flora's aunt, was sympathetic to the cause and gave the Prince and Flora food and drink.
