Scope and Content View of Glenfinnan Monument and Loch Shiel. On 19th August 1745, Charles Edward Stuart raised his standard somewhere nearby. The Monument was built in 1815. Loch Shiel lies between Moidart and Sunart in Lochaber on the west coast of Scotland. The picturesque Road to the Isles also skirts the head of the loch before continuing along Loch Eilt and passing by the head of Loch Ailort. Of the four lochs in Moidart only Eilt and Shiel are freshwater lochs.
