Scope and Content View of Anstruther Easter from Anstruther Wester, Fife Anstruther Wester began as part of a fishing town, becoming a Burgh of Barony in 1541, and a Royal Burgh in the 1580s. A 'mean town' in 1616, it suffered economic damage from the Act of Union in 1707 but recovered in the late 18th and 19th centuries. This is the view from Anstruther Wester churchyard looking towards Anstruther Easter. Created from the eastern half of the original fishing town, this settlement become a Burgh of Barony in 1572, and shares a common history with her sister burgh. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
