Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Category On-line Digital Images
Scope and Content A general view of the southern part of Muir of Ord. In the centre left bottom field a standing stone is visible in the top right of the field. To its left an enclosure and alignment of pits have been recorded. Across the main road from that standing stone another one lies in the upper triangular point of the field. Two possible occupation sites have been identified in the same field. To the left of the main road in the second field going north there is a possible pit alignment. In the third field is another possible occupation site and to its left, across the railway line a cemetery site with an occupation site close by. The large area of rough ground in the upper right has been created by the kettle holes which surround three sides of the Gilchrist promontory fort. Excavation in 2018 as part of the Tarradale Through Time project revealed much more detail about the defences. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
