Scope and Content Inverness city is the capital of the Highlands and linked to the Black Isle and North by the Kessock bridge over the Beauly Firth which replaced the ferry in 1976-82. At the western end of the city are the northern outlets of the River Ness, with its harbour, and the Caledonian Canal.
