Date 6/2/2008

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 341051

Scope and Content This is a general view of the Kessock Bridge, which carries the A9 north, with Inverness on its south side, and North Kessock, Charleston, Craigton and, in the distance, Redcastle on the Black Isle. In this photo the piers at North and South Kessock can be seen, as can the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, the Inverness landfill site and salt marsh and Inverness Marina at the mouth of the River Ness. The Kessock Bridge was opened in 1982 replacing the Ferry which had operated across the Kessock narrows since at least the C15. The Tulloch Caledonian Stadium on the NE side of the A9 was opened in 1996, providing modern facilities for Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC which was formed by amalgamating Inverness Thistle FC and Inverness Caledonian FC in 1994. The Longman landfill site was closed in 2003. The Marina was opened in 2009. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
