Description Aerial view of Tarradale House, base of the Black Isle, looking NE.

Date 5/8/1999

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1944615

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Tarradale house dates from early 18c to mid 19c . Further additions including the library and walled garden were added by 1907. Between Seafield cottages on the shore and Tarradale House there are references to a possible Motte or Castle. During the Tarradale Through Time project of the North of Scotland Archaeological Society in 2017, attempts at excavating this castle revealed no trace. However, the green finger of rough ground just below centre was excavated at the same time, revealing a considerable Mesolithic shell midden, rich in Mesolithic artefacts. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
