SC 1906914
Description Oblique aerial view down the Cromarty Firth to the North Sutor and Sutors of Cromarty, looking SE.
Date 2000
Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland
Catalogue Number SC 1906914
Category On-line Digital Images
Scope and Content At top left of image is the North Sutor headland, with the settlement of Nigg Ferry in foreground, the latter dominated by the Nigg Oil Pipeline Terminal, Fabrication Yard and Dock (where once was a saltworks). Much of the coastal scarp of the North Sutor is occupied by the site of a WW1 and WW2 coastal battery. It is appropriate to mention the corresponding battery on the South Sutor -- the headland at top right -- although in this image it is obscured by high ground. The ancient burgh of Cromarty is clearly seen, occupying its triangular coastal site. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
