Description Oblique aerial view of Torboll Farm, Strath Fleet, East Sutherland, looking SW.
Date 2000
Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland
Catalogue Number SC 1906902
Category On-line Digital Images
Scope and Content The irregular open field, with areas of rig and furrow, to left of long straight field boundary, has been referred to as "Thor's Field", but contains no visible trace of the alleged broch "Thor's Tower" other than a green patch not seen in this image. Various enclosure-type features are made visible by the snow cover and low light. The "Torboll Fall" Bronze Age field system (details not discernible at this distance) lies beyond, to left of forest plantation. A rectangular enclosure in lower right sector of image marks the footings of a farmstead. The distinctive pattern of raised stack bases at Torboll Farm (centre left edge) is notable. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
