Near overhead aerial view of Thor's Field, Torboll Farm, Strath Fleet, East Sutherland, looking N.

SC 1906900

Description Near overhead aerial view of Thor's Field, Torboll Farm, Strath Fleet, East Sutherland, looking N.

Date 2000

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1906900

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content A rectangular enclosure just S of the track at left centre edge may relate to a building shown on the 19th-C 1st-edn. OS map. The larger rectangular enclosure left of centre may relate to a farmstead recorded nearby. The alleged site of a broch, "Thor's Tower", is just N of the intersection (centre of image) of the N-S watercourse and the E-W track. However, other than a reported "green patch" (not visible in snow) the record reports no evidence of a structure on the site. At centre right, rig and furrow is seen beyond the house. At upper right edge, halfway between the farm buildings and upper right corner of image, a vague round patch in the field may be where a circular cropmark has been recorded as a possible henge. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
