Scope and Content Maryburgh is on the left. This is a C19 village, named in honour of the wife of Lord Seaforth, Mary Proby. On the right side of the River Conon is Conon Bridge, which was laid out in 1829. Both villages have greatly expanded in the C20 with new housing. The fabrication yard and sand and gravel workings can be seen on the Conon Bridge side of the river. The new road bridge in the centre was opened in 1969, replacing the original Telford Bridge built in 1806-09. The railway bridge was opened in 1862 and designed by Joseph Mitchell.
