Scope and Content A village at North Kessock has probably been in existence since 1437 when the Dominican monastery in Inverness was granted a charter to run a ferry to the Black Isle. This became part of the pilgrimage route to Tain and a ferry operated between South and North Kessock till the Kessock Bridge was opened in 1982. The two piers at North Kessock can just be seen below the bridge. The village of Charleston was laid out immediately to the west of North Kessock by Sir Charles Mackenzie of Kilcoy in 1812. Towards the top of the photo is Ord Hill with its vitrified fort. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
