Scope and Content Dovecot, Kellie Castle, Fife, from south This dovecot, situated between the castle and the stables, was designed by the architect Robert Lorimer (1856-1929). Lorimer carried out some of his first work at Kellie, including designing the formal garden. The dovecot is built into the wall-head, and has 36 flight-holes above a narrow stone ledge. In 1970, Hew Lorimer (1907-93), the son of Robert Lorimer, sold the castle to The National Trust for Scotland. It is now open to the public, and contains an exhibition of the life and work of Hew Lorimer, who was an eminent sculptor. Kellie Castle was built between the 15th and 17th centuries, and is a fine example of Scottish domestic architecture. The castle was not substantially altered or added to during the 18th or 19th centuries, so many of the original details survive. The castle was restored by the Lorimer family, who leased the property in the 1870s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
