Scope and Content Sketchbook created during a tour of Orkney and Shetland in August 1801 by James Skene of Rubislaw. Views 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9 are of Orcadian subjects are drawn directly on recto pages, while the rest are of Shetland subjects drawn on recto pages and pasted on to verso pages. Page 16/17 is an insertion. Several different styles and media are used. Three of the sketches were engraved and published in 'The history of the Orkney Islands', G Barry 1805.
