Administrative History RMJM were responsible for the design of th Goz-tik Park memorial building. The building is sited on a mound that formed the burial place of patriots executed by the occupying Italians between 1910 and the late 1930s. Within the park, a courtyard garden based on the Islamic theme of the four rivers of paradise leads the visitor to the memorial building. The entrance leads to darkened underground exhibition halls and to a circular space housing a camera obscura displaying a live picture of Misurata. Above the camera obscura rises a tower, clad in white marble, and housing the camera lense at the top. Lights from this lens projects the image down onto a white table in the centre of the hall. The camera obscura hall is circular and dimly lit form a high-level frieze which tells the story of the fight for independence in Arabic. The gardens of the park are designed for the enjoyment of the people of Misurata, with green spaces, shady walks, sitting areas, an aviary and a children's playgroud. Fountains and water features provide relief on a hot day and refreshments can be obtained in a cafeteria. The design was completed in 1982.
