Scope and Content This collection of drawings by the amateur architect, Augustus Terry Clarke (1808-86) is a remarkable survival of a collection of amateur architectural drawings. Some of the draughtsmanship is very good and the collection includes designs for his own house, Achareidh in Nairn, which he bought in 1839. Other significant drawings in the collection are for Coworth Park in Berkshire where his father is said to have lived for a while, and also for The Parsonage at Iping in Sussex, built in 1839 by the Oxfordshire architect, Thomas Greenshields, for Clarke's brother, Henry Danvers Clarke (now called Hammerwood House). Also included are some designs for furniturej possibly built by Clarke himself. There are also clever designs for agricultural machinery and a particularly interesting design for the chimneypiece in the Red Drawing Room at Brodie Castle, which still exists. The Clarke family owned Achareidh until 1993.
