Scope and Content Fort and temporary camp at Stracathro, Angus This Roman fort and temporary camp are at Stracathro. The fort is probably one of the series of auxiliary forts surrounding the fortress at Inchtuthil. The camp lies to the SW of the fort. This is an aerial view of the site showing the camp. One of the gateways can be clearly seen on the right side of the camp. This distinctive style of gate, with the defences projecting outwards to protect it, is known as a Stracathro. The site was discovered through aerial photography in 1957. Some excavations have been done on the site. Finds include a coin, dated AD 86. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
