The Union Canal continues its level course eastwards across comparatively even terrain. Just W of Polmont Station (NS 930 781) a stretch of well-cut, droved masonry runs alongside the tow-path. Transverse streams are led under the canal through well-built masonry conduits; roads are carried over it by bridges, with the exception of the by-road from the A9 to Rumford (see NS97NW 61.04).
See Lin 18 for general record for dates and details of canal's construction (Continues on NS97NE 62.00)

(Scheduling number 8952). The length of the [Edinburgh and Glasgow] Union Canal between the River Avon and Greenbank [NS 8648 7943 to NS 9680 7577] has been accorded statutory protection by scheduling. The 12km long stretch comprises that portion of the canal within the former boundary of Stirlingshire.

Measured Survey (20 August 2020 - 26 August 2020)
HES Survey and Recording undertook a survey of a breach in the Polmont section of the Union Canal that took place on 12 August 2020 in response to a request from colleagues in Casework. The breach occurred in the NE embankment between Almondhall Farm and Kirk Bridge at NS 9532 7731, some 265m NW of the bridge.
The survey consisted of (i) 28 oblique aerial photographs and video captured on 20 August 2020 and (ii) GNSS control and 220 oblique aerial photographs captured on 26 August 2020. On both occasions imagery was captured from a DJI Inspire 2 UAV with a X7 Zenmuse camera. Survey control data was created using a Leica Viva GS10 GNSS System. Fieldwork was undertaken by Dr L Banaszek and Dr G Geddes.
The data captured on the 26th of August was subsequently used to generate an image-based 3D model using Agisoft Photoscan. The project archive includes the imagery, the dense point cloud (txt/laz), an orthomosaic, a slope visualisuation, GNSS data and metadata. The model was also reprocessed by A Rawlinson for dissemination through Sketchfab.
Visited by HES Survey and Recording 20 (GFG) and 26 (GFG, LB) August 2020.
