Troon Station [NAT]

This station is on the new alignment of the Glasgow-Ayr (main) line of the former Glasgow and South Western Rly. It was opened by that company on 2 May 1892, and remains in regular passenger use.

Troon Railway Station was recorded after a fire severely damaged the west platform buildings on Saturday 17th July 2021. Due to the building condition and the proximity to the railway the site of the damaged buildings was cleared before a photographic record could be made. The east platform buildings and platform canopy along with the footbridge to the north survived.
The station was designed by James Miller with William Melville company engineer for the Glasgow and South-Western Railway and opened in 1892. Photographs taken by John Hume SC 494341- SC 494354 taken in 1976 and SC 573399-400 taken in 1981 show the full extent of the station before the fire.
