Aerial Photographic Transcription (5 February 1997 - 13 February 1997)

An aerial transcription was produced from oblique aerial photographs. Information from Historic Environment Scotland (BM) 31 March 2017.

Field Visit (25 November 1997)

NN81SE 11.01 from 8695 1395 to 8745 1489

NN 8695 1395 - NN 8699 1403 Westerton: The line of the Roman road has been recorded as cropmarks on oblique aerial photographs (RCAHMSAP 1982, 1986), which show two roughly parallel rows of quarry pits, set between 14m and 25m apart, running along a low ridge in gently undulating ground.

NN 8736 1454 - NN 8745 1489 cropmarks recorded on oblique aerial photographs (RCAHMSAP 1982, 1986 ) reveal the line of the Roman road as roughly parallel rows of quarry pits set between 20m and 26m apart. The watch tower (NN81SE 7) lies on the line of the NW row of quarry pits.
