Field survey in a 5km wide strip of country stretching from Crieff to Braco was completed in the spring of 1997. The ground is mostly improved and the opportunity was taken to transcribe all the oblique aerial photographs of sites recorded as cropmarks. In tandem with the transcription of the aerial photographs, a hierarchical system of classification was developed for use in tagging the graphic elements of the transcriptions. The extension of the structural database used for recording monuments in the field to elements identified on transcriptions, such as individual barrows in a cemetery, has introduced a detailed level of recording to the aerial photograph derived material. One upstanding monument surveyed in detail was the fort on Milquhanzie Hill [NN82SE 37], where extensive disturbance had been caused by the recent construction of an access road to a new telecommunications-mast.
