Scope and Content Watch tower at Westerton, Perth and Kinross This Roman watch tower is at Westerton. It is built on a small, rounded hillock near the Roman road which ran from Camelon, through Ardoch, to Strageath. There are no remains on the ground. This is an aerial view of the site. The watch tower can be seen as a circular cropmark in the centre of the image. Inside are four dark cropmarks which represent the posts which would have supported the wooden tower. This watch tower was first identified through aerial survey and the site was excavated in 1979. The main purpose of this was to get some datable evidence. It is believed to be from the Flavian period, and was deliberately demolished when abandoned. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
