OS 6" map, Argyllshire, 2nd ed., (1870)
Chapelverna, Strachur: No remains of this chapel can now be seen, as it was completely destroyed when Strachur church (NN00SE 10) was built; the medieval grave slabs associated with it being built into the wall of that church. It was dedicated to St Marnoch, and may have been associated with the motte NS19NW 1.
M Paterson 1970.
There is no trace of this chapel.

Field Visit (August 1986)
The site of a chapel was pointed out by local residents in 1870on low-lying ground on the W bank of the River Cur, 500mSW of Strachurmore farmhouse. The field was then known as 'Chapel Field', and Roy's Map of about 1750 shows in this area the settlement of 'Chaple', otherwise 'Chappelverna', of which no trace remains; the name appears in a charter of 1580 (en.1). It was believed in 1870 that the attached burial-ground was 'used by the inhabitants of the district prior to Kilmaglash (No. 101)', but the tradition that the medieval graveslabs at Strachur were moved from this site is unconvincing (en.2). The dedication may have been to St Ernan.
