NM82NE 50.01 85435 29743 Piermaster's House

Not to be confused with Oban Harbour, Railway Quay (NM 8560 2984 to 8575 2993), Oban Harbour, Commissioners for Northern Lights' Pier (NM 8534 2982) and Oban Harbour, North Pier (NM 8574 3010), for which see NM82NE 49, NM82NE 51 and NM83SE 43, respectively.

The South Pier was constructed by the Duke of Argyll, proprietor of South Oban, c. 1814, at the period when Henry Bell's pioneer steamship 'The Comet' was establishing a regular service between Glasgow and Oban.

Visited September 1971.

RCAHMS 1975.

(Location cited as NM 855 297). Built 1820 by Campbell of Sonachan for steamer traffic. A rubble quay with a slipway at the W side. There is a delightful 1-storey pier house (NM82NE 50.01) with two Gothic-windowed corner turrets.

Oban Harbour is an ill-defined area around NM 856 300.
