Archaeology Notes

NC80SE 72 89323 03418.

This farmstead dated from the 1820s and originally had a U-shaped plan. A central range, consisting of a feed store with a dovecot in the front gable and a byre/open shelter sheds behind, was added, probably in the mid-19th century, to create an E-shaped plan. Behind the barn was a water wheel (not the wheel house shown on Loch's plan). There were also later covered cattle courts. When visited the farmstead was still in use. The original buildings were in a poor state of repair while the later structures were in good condition. This farmstead was surveyed before demolition in 1996 and has since been replaced by a portal-frame shed.

J Loch, 1820.

Visted by RCAHMS (GJD), July 1994 and August 1995; see NMJRS MS744/96.
