Accommodation camp for service personnel based at Kirknewton airfield.

RAF Kirknewton Married Quarters are noted on 1:10,000 map (1983 edition), on W side of Kirknewton village, at NT 111 671.

The military camp is visible on RAF WW II vertical air photographs (NLA 71, 4010-4011, flown 9 September 1943).

The camp consists of up to 39 huts of varying sizes spread over three fields to the W of the airfield.

The main area of the camp has now had a small estate of new houses annotated 'Newlands' on the current OS digital 1:2500 scale map, built on it.

At least three camps sites served as accommodation for the airfield. The main camp was centred on NT 11460 65080, and comprised the majority of buildings, although it was subject to rebuilding and later redevelopment for private housing. Two smaller camps, or associated service buildings were located at NT 11121 64535 and NT 11510 64552.

At least six air raid shelters, Stanton shelter type, are visible on 25cm Aerial images or depicted on OS 1:2500 map (1965) at NT 1122 6528, NT 1121 6525, NT 1121 6522, NT 1114 6447, NT 1112 6456, NT 1106 6454 and NT 11500 64552.
