Activities

Field Visit (9 August 1931)

Chapel, Houll, North Roe.

This building formerly stood within the churchyard enclosure at Houll, North Roe, but no remains of it can now be traced. In the churchyard, however, are two rude crosses similar in form to those at Lunda Wick, Unst [HP50SE 6], and Reafirth, Yell [HU59SW 1].

(HU 3714 9102) Chapel (LB) (Site of)

OS 6" map, Shetland, 2nd ed. (1900)

No trace of the chapel. According to local information, gravediggers occasionally come across its foundation stones in the area of the O.S. siting.

The two stone crosses noted by RCAHMS are set up against the W wall of the burial ground, which is still in use.

Visited by OS (RL) 24 May 1969.
