Field Walking (23 April 2019 - 7 May 2019)
An archaeological walkover survey was carried out by Rathemll Archaeology on April 8th 2019 to inform a proposed planting scheme near Dunkeld, Perth & Kinross.
Nine historical sites were identified as lying either wholly or partly within the assessment area with a further site located adjacent to the boundary. These included: two cup-marked rocks of prehistoric date; a head-dyke and fields associated with a much larger post-medieval rural settlement lying to the north of the assessment area at Trochry; a linear trackway of 19th century date, three possible stone settings or stone circles; a prehistoric burial cairn and nearby small cairns; a linear field boundary of uncertain date, and; a group of small cairns of uncertain date.
Based on the evidence gathered for this assessment, positive management has been recommended to safeguard the cup and mark stones, the head-dyke and associated field systems, the prehistoric burial cairn and nearby cairns, and the group of small cairns with an uncertain date.

This cairn is situated on the broad heather-covered summit of Trochry Hill, the N shoulder of Creag Liath, in a situation which provides an extensive prospect of Strathbraan from SW through N to E. It measures 7.5m in diameter and 0.5m in height. Occasional large stones around the edge may be the remains of a kerb (Braan93 261).
To the W of the cairn, on gently-sloping ground, there is a scatter of eight small cairns, each about 3m in diameter, in an area measuring approximately 100m SE-NW by 50m transversely, centred on NN 9809 3833 (Braan93 269).
