Activities

Field Visit (12 January 1995)

NS85NE 35.00 8687 5749.

NS85NE 35.01 8690 5745 Spoil Heap

The coal pit that is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire, 1864, sheet xiii) had been abandoned by the end of the century (2nd edition, 1899, sheet xiii.SW). The pond and spoil heap that are depicted on the 1921 revision (sheet xiii), were subsequently overlain by a larger spoil heap (NS85NE 35.01).

The location indicated 450m WNW of Blackhall farmsteading now lies within an area of open-cast mining activity.
