West Longrigg Colliery is depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1899, sheets iii and iv) as one working coal mine, called 'West Longrigg Coal Pit No.5', and comprised three bings, an 'Old Shaft' with a bing and pithead structures, and miners rows called West Longrigg; all lay adjacent to, or were connected to, sidings of a mineral railway which forms a branch of the Slamannan Railway Line (NS87SW 47). The Colliery of Longrigg West was finally abandoned in 1910 (Mines Department 1931).
