Field Visit (3 August 1992)

NS87SE 13.01 8580 7237

Nothing is now visible of the station and the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1968) shows that it has been built over. The Slamannan Railway Station is depicted on the the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Stirlingshire 1864 and 1899, sheet xxxv), apparently being enlarged between the 1st and 2nd editions. The revised edition of the same map (Stirlingshire 1922, sheet xxxv, revised 1913-14) also depicts the station but with a slightly different arrangement of buildings to that on the 2nd edition (ibid).

This intermediate station on the Bathgate - Coatbridge line of the (former) North British Rly was opened (by the Slamannan Rly) on 31 August 1840 and was closed to regular passenger traffic (by the London and North-Eastern Rly) on 1 May 1930.
