Activities

Field Visit (5 August 1993)

NS86SE 16 8618 6012

This mine is situated in dense scrub about 40m N of the track which runs along the S edge of Mossband Wood. A slight hollow is visible, with upcast around it. The 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1899, sheet xiii) depicts a shaft, encircled by spoil and approached by a track from the SSE, but the site is not annotated. The revised edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1921, sheet xiii, resurveyed in 1910) marks an 'Old Shaft'.
