NS86SW 18 8212 6374.
A circular brick-lined shaft lies to the E of a 'crows foot' bing, both of which are depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1899, sheet viii). The shaft is directly above the conduit feeding Roughrigg Reservoir and may have been an air-shaft or sunk to assist in the excavation of the conduit. The revised edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1913, sheet viii, resurveyed in 1910) shows the bing only, although both the bing and the shaft are depicted on the current OS 1:10,000 map.
