Field Visit (19 July 1993)

NO08NW 25 centred 044 851

Within the angle formed by the Allt Cristie Mor and an unnamed tributary, there are the remains of two huts. A third hut (MAR93 73) is situated about 350m to the WNW.

One hut (MAR93 71) lies on the left bank of the Allt Cristie Mor at NO 0444 8516. Set into rising ground at the SW end and along its NW side, it measures 5.7m in length by 2.5m in breadth within square-cornered walls of faced rubble spread to 1.1m in thickness. The entrance appears to have been at the NE end. The second hut (MAR93 72) is set into the rear of a slight shelf above the right bank of the unnamed burn, about 40m to the NW of the first hut at NO 0441 8518. It measures 7.1m in length by 2.6m in breadth within faced-rubble walls, with square corners, 0.85m in thickness. It is divided into two compartments, each having a separate entrance.

The third hut is situated upstream of the second, on a shelf above the unnamed burn at NO 0407 8524. Not as well preserved as the other two, it measures 7.4m in length by 4.7m in breadth over walls reduced to stony banks 1.3m in thickness. A drain runs along the NW side wall, and on the other side there is a mound, 1.6m in diameter, which is probably a midden.
