NS 039 627. Nether Ardroscadale North: structure.

A C Hannah and E V W Proudfoot 1995

NS 0391 6269 Site 107 Nether Ardroscadale (old)

100m north west of Nether Ardroscadale farmhouse stand the stone wall-footings of a building 3.5m wide, with a rounded upper gable. Not shown on May’s map of 1780, it may already have been ruinous by that date, and probably belonged to an earlier phase of the farm.

Proudfoot and Hannah 2000

NS 039 627 Building remains: Located 100m NW of Nether Ardroscadale farmhouse. There are the stone wall-footings of a building 3.5m wide aligned downhill. Upper corners slightly rounded. Lower wall not evident, some tumble. The length is perhaps 8m. It is probably a former farm building.

Information from Bute Natural History Society Deserted Settlement Survey (1991-9)

(RCAHMS WP000273).

This building is situated in rough pasture immediately NW of Nether Ardroscadale farmsteading. Rectangular on plan, it measure 4.9m from NNW to SSE by 3.9m transversely over walls reduced to grass-grown stony banks 0.6m in thickness and up to 0.4m in height. The SSE end of the building has been disturbed. The barely discernible remains of what is possibly another building lie immediately to the NE.

Visited by RCAHMS (GFG, JMH) 6 May 2009.
