On the side of a small hanging valley above the West Kyle are the ruins of this former farm. One partially re-roofed mortared building of mid 19th century construction stands on the site of an earlier building whose footings are still visible. Some mortared walling of other buildings shown on OS1 may be seen south west of the track. Wall footings of a long central building shown on May’s map are also visible. The farm is in record from 1440. The lands were joined to Kildavanan in the later 19th century, and one house was occupied until c1930.

NS 0232 6678 Farm remains: Located on side of small valley facing SE, 0.5km inland from W Kyle. A partially re-roofed mortared building, c. 18 x 6m, probably dating to c.1850. These remains are on the site of a similar building shown on May 1780/81. Rink adjacent to NE side. There is some walling, including mortared sections of buildings shown on OS1 1863, S of road. This building was still standing in 1960. There are also platforms and some wall-footings of 2 long buildings, shown on May 1780/81, S of road. There are traces of a yard wall above and below buildings. In record from 1440. Linked to Kildavanan from 1881 though house was occupied for sometime longer.

This farmstead is situated on a narrow terrace on the S flank of Eenan Hill, surrounded by improved fields. It comprises a partly-roofed range, probably of 19th century date, which measures about 27m in length and exhibits at least two phases of construction. A horse-engine platform stands adjacent to the SE end of the NE side of the range. Only footings are now visible of the L-plan range that stood immediately W of the surviving building and is depicted roofed on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Argyllshire and Buteshire 1869, Sheet CCIII).
'Scarral' is first depicted on Roy's Military Map (1747-55), which details a group of buildings and a ‘yard’ surrounded by arable land. A contemporary estate map (Foulis 1758-9; RHP14107/32) shows three parallel ranges (all orientated NNW and SSE) and a single ‘yard’ surrounded by 'high cold arable land' on a farm of 226 acres. A later estate map (May 1780-82) depicts the same three ranges, a fourth, smaller, building a little to the W, and four enclosures. In addition to the two roofed buildings already mentioned, the 1st edition map depicts a series of adjacent enclosures and two wells. The contemporary Name Book (No.6, p.41) describes Scarrel as 'a farm house and offices, the property of the Marquis of Bute'. Scarrell is visible on an RAF vertical aerial photograph taken on 15 May 1946 (106G/SCOT/UK94/4145) when the two buildings were still roofed and the horse engine platform was clearly visible.
