NS 0911 5541 Site 19 Gatehouse

Beside Plan Road opposite Blackpark Plantation are the foundations of two buildings and traces of a yard wall. These cottages were occupied until about a century ago.

Proudfoot and Hannah 2000

NS 0911 5541 Settlement remains: Located W of Plan Road at Suidhe Plantation. There are foundations of 2 rectangular buildings and traces of yard wall. Large turf dyke curving NE through wood across road and entering Black Park. These are a double and single cottages dating to c. 1880.

Gatehouse building is situated in the SE corner of a cultivated field 530m NE of Largizean farmsteading and immediately W of the Plan Road. It comprises a building measuring 24.4m from NNE to SSW by 7.6m transversely over mortared rubble walls reduced to no more than 0.4m in height. The interior was choked with an overgrown pile of field-cleared stones on the date of visit and no partitions or doorways were noted.

The building is depicted roofed on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the Ordnance Survey 6-inch map (Buteshire 1869, Sheet CCXV; 1897, Sheet CCXV.SE).
