Activities

Field Visit (February 1991 - November 1991)

NS72NW 11.01 7020 2621 (centred).

A total of 168 mine-shafts have been identified in the part of the mineral field that lies to the SE of the site of the Ironworks (NS62NE 17). These range from small bell-pits with a rim of spoil to mine-shafts with larger spoil dumps, many of which have been levelled to provide the material for the later tracks and tramways. During the course of the survey, the remains of 23 horse-engine platforms were recorded in this area.

Visited by RCAHMS (ARW, SPH), February-November 1991.

NMRS MS 731/6.
