Archaeology Notes

Recent aerial photography (RCAHMSAP 1995) has revealed the cropmarks of a possible ring-ditch, measuring approximately 2m in diameter within a ditch of 2m breadth. The entrance is on the SW side and the ring-ditch is intersected by the S end of the linear cropmark.

Cropmarks on oblique aerial photographs (RCAHMSAP 1989) reveal a circular barrow lying on the leading edge of a broad terrace on the N bank of an unnamed tributary of the Shaggie Burn. The barrow measures about 8m in diameter within a broad ring-ditch between 2m and 4m in breadth. A burial-pit at the centre of the interior appears to be elongated, with its long axis from NNE to SSW. A linear cropmark, aligned from NNE to SSW and about 30m in length lies to the ESE of the barrow.
