Field Visit (30 May 1990)

NX66NW 13.3 6239 6715.

Two shielings and two pairs of folds are situated within 50m of one another on small terraces along the rocky W side of Clack Hill. The more northerly of the group is an elliptical turf-built shieling, which measures 6.5m from E to W by 4.9m transversely over banks standing up to 0.5m in height, providing an internal space 4m from E to W by 2.5m transversely. A few metres to the S are the low stony foundations of a two-compartment fold. Beside it to the S are the low green-covered footings of a two-compartment shieling, which measure 7.5m from E to W by 4.7m transversely. Some 30m to the S is the fourth member of the group which comprises a narrow stone-built fold of two unequal parts attached to a stone bank around the edge of the terrace.
