Nothing remains of the old church of St Martin, which is mentioned in the foundation charter granted by David I to Jedburgh Abbey between 1147 and 1150.

RCAHMS 1956, visited 1945

It stood near the centre of the graveyard and was taken down in 1808 for the purpose of building the new parish church (at NY 4970 8947).

Name Book 1858

The graveyard is still in use; there is no trace of the former church. Visited by OS (JRL) 6 August 1979
